The 8th edition of Paleochora Open Chess tournamentwill be held from 17-24th July 2015, in Paleochora town, part of the Mediterranean island of Crete.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Kantanos – Selino and Chania Chess Academy, in collaboration with the Region of Chania and Greek Chess Federation.
The tournament will be played in Paleochora Community Center in a 9-round Swiss format, valid for FIDE rating and norms.
The organizers provide many side activities, including a boat trip to Elafonisi, an island with pristine beaches and naturally pink sands.
The prize fund in total of 7,000 € will be awarded as follows:
1,800 €/ 1,300 €/ 900 €/ 3 X 400 €, 4 X 200 €.
The best female players will be granted 500 €/ 300 €/ 200 €, while the highest placed juniors, girls, senior and local player will receive cups and medals.
Greek player GM Hristos Banikas (2628) heads the field of 97 players, including 19 GMs.
