A sad Portland-at-Sundance note: Karen Schmeer’s last film

Amid all the happy chatter about Oregon films and filmmakers making a big dent at the upcoming 2011 Sundance Film Festival comes this sobering bit of news: among the out-of-competition documentary premieres is “Bobby Fischer Against the World,” a film about the eccentric and troubled chess champion which represents the final project of Karen Schmeer, the Portland-born and -educated film editor who died in a bizarre traffic accident in New York City earlier this year.
