The 4th International Sardaran E Shahid Azerbaijan Cup was held from July 22-29, 2015, at Morvarid Hotel, in Urmia, Iran.
The Chess Association of “West Azerbaijan” province and I.R. Iran Chess organized the event and provided the prize fund in total of US$ 25,000.
The chess festival gathered more than 400 players, split into five different tournaments.
The star-packed section was Open A, for players with Elo rating more than 2100. Iranian GM Pouria Darini came on top with 7.5/9 points. His country-men GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami and GM Pouya Idani tied for the second place with 7 points.
The winner of Open B (for players below 2100) is another Iranian player, Mohammadreza Khorshidi. He scored 8/9, leaving the nearest followers half a point behind.
Georgian IM Nino Khurtsidze emerged a convincing winner of Open C (Maral Cup) female tournament with 8.5/9 points and so did Hamid Tahmasebi in Open E (youth tournament U14).
The first place in Open D blitz tournament was shared in a three-way tie by GM Merab Gagunashvili of Georgia, GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami of Iran and GM Vugar Rasulov Vugar of Azerbaijan at 9 points each.
