Gareev won the 2010 National Open in Las Vegas by defeating Akobian in the final round. The Susan Polgar Foundation awarded over $150,000 in chess scholarships and chess prizes at the 5th annual SP World Open for Girls and 4th annual SP World Open for Boys. These 2 events were a part of the annual Las Vegas International Chess Festival.
Players came from as far as Mongolia and the Philippines to compete this year. The winner of each of the 8 sections received a state of the art netbook with over $600 of chess software and DVDs installed.
