The 2012 Egyptian Rapid Chess Championship was held on 19th October over nine rounds of Swiss system. 154 players competed.

Four players shared the first place with 7,5 points each, but only after GM Ahmed Adly spoiled the convincing lead with a last round defeat against the country’s top rated player GM Bassem Amin.
Nevertheless, Adly was declared champion thanks to the superior tie-break.
