The Amateur Chess Tournament Open Topusko 2014 was organized by Chess Society Sisak, Chess Union of Sisak Moslavina County and TEOS Zagreb at the Grand Hall of Hotel Toplica in Topusko, a spa town in Croatia on 8-15th August 2014.
The event was a 9-round FIDE Swiss Tournament open to all players rated below 2301. The time control was 90′ + 30″.
91 players from 8 different countries, including 11 FMs, competed for the prize fund in the amount of 24.600 HRK (nearly 3230 €).
Macedonian FM Robert Veleski emerged a clear winner on 8/9 points, gaining the first prize of 4.000 HRK and adding 52 (!) ELO points to his rating.
Second place was shared on a three-way tie by 15-year-old Sven Tica, Leo Pecnik and Josip Stocko on 7 points each, but Tica took the bronze on superior tie-break score and added 87 (!) ELO points.
