The Norway Chess 2013 tournament will be played from 7th to 18th May in Stavanger, Norway. Sponsors and local authorities are investing 5 million NOK (approx 672,000 EUR) for the prize fund and organizational costs.
The organizers initially intended to hold the strongest chess tournament ever in Norway, but with the impressive lineup that has been announced today it might as well be the strongest tournament ever! FIDE rating list in May will tell whether Norway can surpass the Tal Memorial 2012 which had an average of 2776,4 elo.
Parallel with Norway Chess 2013, the Stavanger Open NGP 2013 with 5,000 EUR prize fund will be held within the same playing venue. In addition, there will also be youth tournaments.
Soon after this super-tournament, the Norwegian fans will be able to follow the match Magnus Carlsen – Borki Predojevic in Lillehammer (June) and FIDE World Chess Cup 2013 in Tromsø (August).
