Chess star to play in UAE

Super Grandmaster Le Quang Liem will take part in the Fujairah International Chess Championship, which kicks off today in the UAE.

Liem who reached his peak at 39th in the world this week will compete for a prize of US$15,000.

HCM City-born Liem said many strong rivals had registered, including Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine, Mickey Adams from England, Vachier-Lagrave of France and Bruzon Bastista from Cuba.

The championship will be played in nine rounds according to the Swiss System, to conclude on November 22.
